Zidane reveals he likes Pogba but won't discuss potential Real Madrid move

Los Blancos are set for a busy summer transfer window and the 26-year-old midfielder is reportedly one of their top targets

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane admits he likes Manchester United’s Paul Pogba amidst transfer speculation linking the France international to Santiago Bernabeu.

Pogba moved back to Man Utd from Juventus in the summer of 2016 for a then-world-record fee but he has now reportedly become unhappy at Old Trafford.

Real are expected to spend big in the upcoming transfer window after enduring a miserable 2018-19 campaign, but Zidane refused to be drawn on the rumours linking his club with Pogba when asked a week ago.

But the 1998 World Cup winner shed a little more light on his feelings towards his compatriot on Saturday.

“Yes, I like [Pogba],” Zidane said at a press conference ahead of his side’s La Liga clash with Real Sociedad. “But I am not the only one. Every coach likes good players, as does every football fan.

“But he’s a Manchester United player and I won’t talk about transfers.”

Barcelona vice president, Jordi Mestre, admitted he too is an admirer of Pogba, and passed similar comments on Premier League stars Eden Hazard and Mohamed Salah.

Pogba’s future, however, could be affected by the three-month worldwide ban from football activity handed down to his agent, Mino Raiola, by FIFA on Friday.

Raiola was originally sentenced on Wednesday by the Italian Football Association for “false grounds and lies”.

The sanctions might also impact Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt, another of the agent’s clients, who – having been linked with Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United – is widely expected to leave the Amsterdam outfit this summer.

Hazard, meanwhile, looks set to leave Stamford Bridge with his representatives reportedly close to agreeing terms with Real.

The Belgium international is seen by many as a worthy replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who left for Juventus last year.

But Zidane has his concentration set on the last two remaining La Liga fixtures of the campaign.

Barca had the title wrapped up back on April 27 and Real look set to finish in third place, regardless of performances against Sociedad and Real Betis.

Los Blancos sit six points behind second-placed Atletico Madrid and 10 points in front of Getafe.
